We are introducing Video Call Translation in AI Phone to make cross-language video calls easier to stay in.
Why We Built It
Video calls have become a natural way to stay close, work together, and handle important conversations. But when people speak different languages, even a simple call can become difficult to follow.
We built this feature after seeing how difficult it can be to keep a video conversation going when two people do not share a language. The problem is not only understanding individual words. It is staying connected, responding naturally, and keeping the conversation from turning into repeated pauses.
The State of Video Call Translation in 2025
Real-time translation was already available in some situations, but it was not broadly built into the communication apps people used every day.
Some meeting platforms offered translated captions, while certain translation features were limited to specific devices, operating systems, or paid plans. These tools could be useful for meetings, but they did not always help people with everyday video calls across different apps.
Popular communication apps such as WhatsApp and many other everyday calling platforms did not offer built-in real-time translation for voice or video calls. Users could make video calls easily, but they still needed a separate solution when the two sides did not speak the same language.
Mainstream translation apps generally focused on face-to-face voice translation, text, photo, or screen translation. They were not designed to translate an active video call on platforms such as WhatsApp.
We saw an opportunity to make this experience more accessible.
What We’re Bringing to Video Calls
With this launch, we are bringing bilingual captions into video conversations, making it easier for both sides to follow what is being said without leaving the call or relying on guesswork.
The other person does not need to download AI Phone to join the call. This makes it easier to connect with family members, friends, customers, or contacts who may not want to install another app.
The experience is designed to keep the conversation moving. Instead of repeatedly stopping to explain a sentence or switching between several tools, both people can stay focused on the call.
How to Use Video Call Translation in AI Phone
Video Call Translation is available to subscribers on a paid AI Phone plan. Once you subscribe, you can access the feature in AI Phone.
To try the feature:
- Open AI Phone.
- Tap Call.
- Tap the Video Call icon.
- Choose the app you want to use or choose to Share Link to Any App.
- Set your language.
- Set the other person’s language.
- Set your voice and the other’s voice.
- Choose Video Call.
- Tap Call Now.
- Share the call link through your social or communication app to the person you want to invite.
- Ask the other person to open the link and join the call.
